Mule Trains

One of the exciting options tourists have at the Grand Canyon is to take a mule ride down to the bottom and back up, on a narrow and uneven switch-back trail, from either the North or South Rims. There also are working mule trains in the canyon. Supplies are delivered every other day to Phanton Ranch (the only lodging below the canyon rim) on Bright Angle Trail. The US Post Office sends mail by mule train to and from the Havasupai Reservation and village of Supai at the bottom of the canyon. These are photos of a supply mule train traveling from the South Rim down Bright Angle Trail (two riders each with three or four mules). Mule trains have the right of way, so be prepared to move over - to the INSDIE of the trail.
