Spring Football

That isn’t an oxymoron. If you are an alum or otherwise a fan of a potential College Championship Series (CCS) team, football is a 12 month a year event. The NCAA governs aspects of the game before, during and following the regular fall season of games and bowl games. There is off-season conditioning early in the calendar year, spring practices culminating in an inter-squad game. Between those three periods CCS football is perpetually in the news with talk about various players awards, recruiting, the next season’s schedule and match-ups, and players in the NFL draft. Given Penn State was ranked 4th in the nation after a Fiesta Bowl Win at the end of last season, there is a large amount of buzz this year about the possibility of a national championship on the horizon. The buzz is loud enough to bring 55,000 fans into Beaver Stadium today for the Spring Game, and probably another 40,000 fans tailgating outside or at other places across the community. CCS team football not only has a big fan base, but it also is big big business. (The photos were taken with an iPhone 6 - easier to carry given restrictions on what can taken into the stadium.)
