My 5/2/18 Blog entry focused on our daughter and son-in-law’s commitment to lowering their carbon footprint, particularly the purchase of an EV (i.e., Tesla Model 3) and the future installation of solar panels. The solar panels were installed last week on the south facing side of their roof - the front. Appearance wise, the panels blend in very well with the roof. The control system is mounted on the back of the house. It consists of two inverters (larger boxes on left) that change DC current from panels to AC current; a control panel (small box in middle) that controls the flow of AC current to the electric meter box through circuit breakers; and AC current entering the electric meter box (far left) is either distributed and use in the house via a regular breaker panel or back flows into the grid, all monitored by an electric meter which notes a credit when electricity is contributed to the grid.
