Orvieto is an ancient city that predates the Roman Empire, built on a butte of volcanic rock and walled for protection. Today, visitor come to enjoy the ride on the incline to the top, views of the Umbria countryside below, the monumental Duomo of Orvieto / Cathedral (complete in 1561), the tunnels, rooms, wells, and escape routes within the butte (not shown), and shopping along via del Duomo a few blocks off the Piazza Duomo.

We favored walking the cities narrow allies and relaxing at a cafe on the piazza.

These two photos are of wisteria hanging over an alley wall and a peek inside the patio from which it was growing.

While Orvieto is a very old city, notice the modern technology - camera and technology - above the door.
