Poison Garden?

Poison Gardens were relatively common during the middle ages on estates and castles grounds across the British Isles. They were used to grow plants and herbs with poisonous properties, but they were seldom used to purposely kill (thought that does not mean it did not happen). The plants and herbs were the "roots" (sorry about the pun) of pharmacy, used as medicines in small doses to treat illnesses. We found this sign in the gardens at Blarney Castle in Ireland. We anticipated the sign was for show given the liability would be very high to have poisonous plants growing in the open, but to be safe we did not tough any of the plants and flowers in that section of the garden. (See my 4/15/18 Blog entry on the Blarney Stone.)
