Bar Harbor, Maine and adjacent Acadia National Park were especially popular vacation destinations for the wealthy prior to and following WW II - until in October and November of 1947 a fire burned through 17,000 acres including a major portion of the park and town. Over 150 homes, hotels, and mansions on the former “Millionaire’s Row” were lost in the town. Seventy years later, Bar Harbor continues to be a very nice but different vacation spot. Arcadia National Park continues to a big draw. An evening sail on a four mast ship is a memorable experience.
