Pt. Reyes National Seashore is a 70,000 square acre National Park in Marin Co., CA, northwest of San Francisco. The San Andreas Fault runs between the mainland and the triangle-shaped peninsula on which the majority of the park sits. Reyes Seashore was established in the early 1960 to protect clean beaches, headlands, estuaries, and uplands from development. A number of dairy farms remain on the peninsula. On the lower eastern edge is the small town of Pt. Reyes Station. On the far west point of the triangle sets the Pt. Reyes Light House. The Pacific Ocean shoreline from the Golden Gate Bridge northward to Reyes Seashore is a series of parks and preserves, including the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, and Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Historic California Rt 1, which runs north-south through the center of the area, provides access.
