Interesting Trees

The following are photos of some interesting trees from California, Hawaii, Newfoundland and Pennsylvania. The first two are of Juniper trees along the Pacific Ocean in California: The first was located on a sand dune that separated Pfeffer Beach from a forested area in the Big Sur area. The path to and from the beach went under the tree. The second was a wind-shaped row of Junipers high on a cliff in Reyes National Seashore near the Reyes Point Lighthouse (see my 9/1/18 Blog). Red from the setting sun is reflected off the trees.

The next series of photos are of trees in Hawaii. The first is the gnarly trunk of an ironwood tree at Nu’uanu Pali Lookout on the island of Oahu. The flat face of the twist was over two-foot.

Next are four photos of a Banyon Trees, the first two of a tree on Waikiki Beach, and the last two of a groomed Banyon Grove adjacent to the Baldwin House Museum on Maui.

Last is a Rainbow Eucalyptus with its colorful bark in a line of them at the Dole Plantation also on Oahu.

We found this birch tree(s) while hiking near Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Apparently, it sprouted from a seed(s) deposited in organic material (moss?) held in a concave area on top of the bolder and eventually grew roots that extended three-foot down into the soil on multiple sides.

The last two photos are fence-like stands of trees of significantly different scales – huge red wood trees in Pfeffer Big Sur State Park and standard size white pines at Lake Perez (a Penn State recreational area) in Barree Township, PA.
