I found this bumble bee inside a lily pad flower one morning while kayaking on Black Moshannon Lake - Black Moshannon State Park outside Philipsburg, PA - in about 2006. At the time I thought it was a very lucky opportunity to photograph a bumblebee collecting nectar and pollen (photo taken with a Cannon AE-1).
Fast forward to Fall 2018 on a south facing slope in our neighborhood where I found a dozen bumble bees drawing the last bit of nectar and pollen from flowers. This late in the year, the nectar and pollen will be used to feed developing queen bumble bees that will hibernate over the winter with a few worker bees and awake in the spring to begin a new colony (photos taken with an iPhone 6).
