What Trade War?

Bill, a member of our rail-trail bike riding group, shared this photo from a recent trip his wife and he made to southern China - their fifth trip to China. It shows Bill and a local fisherman on the Li (Lijiang) River last month sharing a laugh, as well as a hat, bamboo raft, cormorant birds and beards.

Not to spoil the photo, but this fisherman and other members of his family are part-time photo subjects. They supplement their incomes by posing for photos with tourists - cash only. The cormorant birds on the bamboo poll and end of the raft are an important part of the fishing process, as well as photo staging. When fishing, a string is tied around their necks to prevent them from swallowing fish they dive after. They are pulled in and the fish retrieved. The string is periodically loosened allowing the birds to swallow fish.
