Winter Break
Penn State students often question why the semester that starts in January is referred to as the “Spring Semester” as opposed to the Winter Semester given winter in central PA can lasts deep into April. Similarly, they wonder why the semester break that occurs the second week of March is “Spring Break” as opposed to Winter Break. After a week of record breaking cold caused by an unusual slump in the polar vortex, State College experienced a real winter break the last couple of days with afternoon high temperature in the high 50s. I used the opportunity to move my three-time per week 13-mile bike ride off a stationary bike to outdoors. While the break in the winter weather was short lived, spring is only a few months away. Old Guys with Bikes soon will be riding central PA rail-trails again.
