Cool Terrain

Part of the attraction of California is its diversity, not only in its people, but also in its geography and ecology. These are two photos taken on a 2017 drive across the central valley east from San Francisco through a ranching area to Yosemite Valley. The rolling hill grassland was unexpected. The above photo was taken from I-5 (or as locals say, “The Five,”) about 25 miles south of Stockton. It shows how ranchers in the area supplement their income by dedicating land to wind turbines. The photo below is the driver’s view of Rt 140 about 15 miles west of Mariposa. We found the sky and terrain features and colors interesting (Don't ask how the photo was taken).
