Live long and [continue to] prosper.

This 200+ year old white oak tree is adjacent to Chambers Building (College of Education) on the University Park Campus. It is believed to be a survivor from the virgin forest that covered central Pennsylvania about the time this tree was an acorn. It is one of two bicentennial white oaks on the north edge of campus. The other is about 100 yards east adjacent to the Smeal College of Business Building. Penn State arborists give campus trees loving care so they “Live long and [continue to] prosper.” For these trees that includes moving sidewalks away from the bases and, as shown in the next photo, supporting low-hanging branches that have a high probability of breaking.
