Central Alaskan Fall Colors

This Blog Entry builds on the two prior entries.

To get to Denali National Park we drove north from Anchorage on Routes 1 and 3 through spectacular scenery with fabulous fall colors. Some examples follow that trace the drive north from Anchorage on Rt 3.

The forested areas are below 3000 ft (the tree line) with yellow colors mainly from aspen, birch, and cottonwood trees, and the green fir trees. The tundra and lower mountain side areas are covered by low berry bushes, e.g., blueberries, cranberries, and clump berries. The colors are on the mountain sides are mainly from minerals deposits.
