Boys at Play
Across 1951, my father built the family home in southern NJ with the help of his father and two brothers. The lot previously had been part of a tomato field - you know, "Jersey tomatoes". Our family moved into the finished house that fall. However, the yard remained rough until after the Korean Conflict Armistice because my father's Air Force Reserve unit was call up to serve (he also served during WW II).
The above is a scan of a photo from the summer of 1952. It shows my cousin "Butch" (AKA William, on the left) and me in the backyard, as well as a new tomato crop growing in background. The rough condition of the yard did not matter to us boys.
