"All Good Things..." 4/30/22

"…must come to an end." The 13 2021-22 Humphrey Fellows have come to the end of their 10 month stay at Penn State, during which they attended graduate level classes in their education specialty area, participated in related professional development activities on campus (face-to-face and/or virtual seminars and presentations) and off campus (e.g., professional meetings), traveled in groups (e.g., DC, Niagara Falls) or individually, and took advantage of the multitude of other resources at Penn State and in the surrounding State College area including through community service projects. That milestone was celebrated at a banquet in which each fellow received a certificate signed by President Biden and the national head of the fellowship program, and recognition by Penn State. Next, they each will complete an internship before returning home.

The photos in this and two following posts are from that ceremony. Included are the professional profiles that were projected on screen as the fellows received their certificates and casual photos from the banquet (in alphabetical order three or four fellows per post).

Amina wants to establish an online community of practice for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers upon returning to Algeria. She celebrated a birthday on the day of the banquet.

Angela also is focused on improving Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language instruction. Unfortunately, I failed to connect Angela with husband and wife neighbors who spent two years in Peru while in the Peace Corp during the late 1960s.

Shahla believes teacher self-inquiry is a powerful means to improving English instruction in Iran. At a Christmas Eve service at St. Pauls UMC, she graciously explained some of the differences in belief between Islam and Christianity.

Dunstan happened to be the only male in the 2021-22 Humphrey Fellow Class at Penn State. He seeks to improve early childhood STEM education in his country in order to increase the number eventually pursuing and entering STEM careers in Papua New Guinea. Dunstan is pictured here with three College of Education administrators (L-R): Leila Bradaschia, Director of International Programs, Troy Frederick, Outreach Coordinator for International Programs, and Greg Kelly, Sr. Associate Dean for Research.
