Do-It-Yourself 10/1/22

Installing engineered flooding seems to be a very popular do-it-yourself home improvement project. Our daughter took on a floor installation project this summer in their basement family room.

Jane and Troy, her husband, removed the carpet, which had been glued to the concrete floor, leaving a rough uneven surface even after using the recommended adhesive solvent and scraping multiple times. So, the three of us poured about 50 gallons of floor leveler to cover those floor imperfections and create a smooth and level surface.

After the leveler fully dried (48 hrs), it was a matter of laying down a thinly padded vapor barrier, and mastering the processes of inter-locking the planks and cutting the end pieces to length with a razor knife and square. Jane mastered both very quickly.

...through to the last piece.

(A small strip of flooring was glued to the last row of flooring before 3/4 round molding was added around the room, except along the fireplace where color matched caulk was used to fill the required expansion space.)
