About a dozen years ago, this Y intersection 250 ft into our neighborhood’s main entry point was redesigned to improve safety. The side street that enters the Y from the right was a steep up-hill slope with a stop sign at the top. In winter weather many vehicles exiting that side street had to “ran” the stop sign in order to maintain momentum to get through the intersection.

The redesign modified a triangular island, removed the stop sign at the top of the side street, and placed stop signs at the other entry points. The borough offered top soil, mulch, and flower bulbs on a continuing annual basis to the neighborhood association to create a flower bed in the triangle. A long standing resident volunteered to be the liaison with the borough and to organize volunteer workers to spread top soil and much, plant bulbs, and weed across the growing season.
