Blow Holes or “puhi” (Hawaiian language) are as fascinating as they are beautiful. They are plentiful in Spouting Horn Park on the southeast shore of the island of Kuai.
Blow holes are formed when wave action wears away softer underlying rock and then creates a hole up though the harder top rock. Subsequent waves explode up through the hole. The size and sharp of the hole and the force of the wave determine the size and shape of the spout.
