Show Room Stand-Ins 6/11/22

The fragile equilibrium in the supply chain that is heavily based on "just in time" manufacturing for new cars and trucks (as well as many other goods) was massively disrupted by COVID. Two years later, most auto dealers still have very few unsold new vehicles on their lots and in their showrooms. Many new vehicle shoppers continue to have to order from the factory and wait six to eight or more weeks for delivery.

With little inventory to display on showroom floors, dealers have had to be creative with that space. Our local Toyota dealership has used its showroom to feature vehicles from the owner's antique car and truck collection. One current Toyota showroom stand-in is a beautifully restored 1939 Ford pickup. The V8 engine makes it a rare find.

Also filling showroom space in the Toyota dealership is a 1959 Edsel - literally a "showboat."
