The Longest Game 11/15/21
We have attended three Penn State football games over the past 15 years where it seemed neither team wanted or could do what was necessary to win. The 2006 Orange Bowl Game between Penn State and Florida State was a three-overtime game (OT) that took over four hours to complete. In the last quarter of the game and in the first OT period, neither team was able to make a field goal attempt and win the game. Both teams scored touch downs in the second OT. Finally, Penn State scored a field goal in the third OT to win.
Then in 2013, Penn State and Michigan played a four OT football game at University Park that the Nittany Lions won 43-40. It is believed to be the longest college football game time-wise from beginning to end

A few weeks ago on October 23rd, we were present when the Illini and Nittany Lions played nine overtimes in a 20-18 win by Illinois. This game now is officially the longest game in NCAA history by total number of overtime periods. It should be noted that for 2021, the NCAA changed overtime rules. Starting with the third OT the ball is placed on the 3 yard line with the offense having one opportunity to score from there for 2 points. The score after regulation was tired at 10, so all but the last of the nine OT periods were not productive for either team or was matched.
