Wednesday Reprint 12/7/22

Continuing the Wednesday Reprint series of photos from past blog entries...

The Penn State Nittany Lions will "go bowling" again this year, to the "Grand Daddy of them All," the Rose Bowl vs the University of Utah on January 2, 2023. They were projected to go to the Cotton Bowl until the upsets that occurred during the last weekend of the season.

It seems appropriate that Penn State would appear in the 2023 Rose Bowl Game given they played in the first Rose Bowl Game in the Rose Bowl Stadium on January 2, 1923 against the University of Southern California. The stadium opened in October 1922. The 1923 game was the 9th football game associated with the Tournament of Roses.

The following is a photo of Beaver Stadium on the Penn State University Park Campus at the opening of an evening "stripe out" game with the Blue Band on the grass field. The stadium officially seats 106,572, but has been known to squeeze in another 4,000. The Rose Bowl Stadium seats 90,888.
