One of the most beautiful scenes I have been able to capture in a photo, this is Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. It was built in the mid-1800 as an estate for the family of Mitchell Henry, a London doctor whose family was involved in textile manufacturing. Irish Benedictine Nuns, who were forced to flee Ypres, Belgium during World War I, purchased the property in 1920 - the land, "castle", a stone Gothic church, gardens,.... Proceeds from tourism, educational programs and partnerships (e.g., Notre Dame University) have kept the Abby functioning for over a century.
