Wooden Horses (11/24/20)

The oldest attraction in Fantasy Land at Disney World is a carrousel, recently renamed as the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. It was "...built in 1917 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co. The attraction began life as the Liberty Carrousel at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. It’s been delighting Guests at Walt Disney World Resort since 1971."

With the recent name change, partial covers were added to the carousel houses consistent with the theme of the new name. But underneath remain hand carved wooden horses that are wonderful examples of an almost lost art. The following are scans of photos from 1992 of those hand-carved wooden horses, along with ones of Mickey and the Epcot Dome. The top photo is from the Web.

My favorite memory from being a child was riding a carousel!
